HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – A 66th Security Forces Squadron senior airman has been named the Air Force Materiel Command Security Forces Operations Airman of the Year.
The award recognizes enlisted Security Forces members for outstanding performance, leadership, and contributions to the mission.
“Senior Airman Jacob Begin has set the standard for excellence in the Security Forces career field,” said Maj. Benjamin Doerfler, 66 SFS commander. “His leadership, adaptability, and dedication to the mission have had a direct and lasting impact.”
Begin’s achievements include safeguarding more than $800 million in research and development resources by leading ground tasking orders, random anti-terrorism measures, and responses to eight vehicle accidents.
He also contributed to his flight being named the squadron’s team of the quarter earlier this year.
During a visit by the Air Force Chief of Staff, Begin coordinated patrols, route plans, and four parking plans to ensure a seamless all-call event attended by more than 1,200 Team Hanscom personnel and several state and local representatives.
According to Doerfler, Begin’s impact extended beyond Hanscom AFB during a no-notice stateside deployment, where he collaborated with federal mission partners. His efforts earned recognition from senior leaders, including the commander of U.S. Northern Command.
“Jacob’s ability to adapt and innovate under pressure was key to neutralizing unprecedented threats and enhancing our operational readiness,” Doerfler said.
Additionally, Begin tested a real-time command and control platform during an active shooter exercise, providing 66th Air Base Group senior leaders with a comprehensive operating picture.
According to the award nomination, Begin also played a key role in National Police Week in August, honoring fallen officers. He also represented Hanscom AFB during the Concord Patriots Day Parade in April that enhanced community relations for the base.
“Jacob embodies what it means to be a well-rounded Airman,” said Doerfler. “His contributions to both the mission and the community demonstrate his commitment to service.”
For his achievements, SFS officials recently presented Begin with the Air and Space Achievement Medal.
He will now advance to compete at the Air Force-level.
