“Deterrence on Demand” Unveiled

WASHINGTON D.C. —

The Chief of the Air Force Reserve Lt. Gen. James Jackson presented the painting “Deterrence on Demand” to Brig. Gen. Thomas Clark, the Mobilization Assistant to the Assistant Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters U. S. Air Force during the Reserve Officers Association National Convention in Washington D.C. Jul. 27, 2015.



Clark accepted the painting on behalf of the Air Force Art Program.  Jackson was joined by Col. Bruce Cox, the commander of the 307th Bomb Wing and Lt. Col. Rob Burgess, 343rd Bomb Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Maj. Warren Neary, Air Force Reserve Historian and artist and Technical Sgt. John Wright, a radar operator in the 307th Bombardment Group Heavy, a unit activated for World War II.

“Deterrence on Demand” depicts Airmen of the 307th Bomb Wing generating their aircraft for a nuclear exercise with aircrew, maintainers and security forces members. The 307th Bomb Wing reached a significant milestone when it became the first Air Force Reserve unit in Air Force history to be nuclear certified, after it excelled during its initial nuclear surety inspection.
Neary, an award-winning artist who was recently selected as the 2015 Air Force Association National Aerospace Gill Robb Wilson Award for Arts and Letters, has served as member of the Air Force Art program for 14 years and has created 23 paintings for the program and the Army Center for Military History. His artwork includes commemorative paintings for the Peacekeeper Intercontinental Ballistic Missile deactivation, 50th Anniversary of ICMBs and 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, along with numerous historical works highlighting Air Force Airmen in action serving our great country.
