KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. — Team Kirtland observed National Police Week with gratitude and remembrance, honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement professionals across the installation and beyond.
As events took place throughout the week, law enforcement professionals across Kirtland including Security Forces, Office of Special Investigations, and other mission-critical personnel continued their vital work safeguarding the installation, conducting investigations, maintaining readiness, and protecting the community.
Kirtland celebrated with a variety of events designed to recognize and engage the law enforcement community, including opening and closing ceremonies, a ruck march, obstacle course, golf tournament, and a “Battle of the Badges” softball game. Personnel also participated in professional development activities, shooting competitions, and community-building gatherings like a BBQ and family-focused engagement events.
“Right now, as we are gathered here celebrating, there are Defenders who aren’t able to be with us — they’re out at the gates, on patrol, standing watch and keeping us safe,” said Col. Michael Power, 377th Air Base Wing and installation commander. “Their dedication ensures that we can do our jobs, live safely, and focus on our mission.”
Established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, Police Week is a national time of recognition for those who wear the badge and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Kirtland also honored the families who stand behind them and those injured in the line of duty.
“To all our law enforcement officials, including Security Forces and the Office of Special Investigations here at Kirtland — your service, your sacrifice, and your steadfast commitment to our nation does not go unnoticed,” Power said. “We see you. We appreciate you. You make our mission possible and for that, we are eternally grateful.”
